Can I use tampons or menstrual cups?

During and after the abortion it is advised to use pads instead of tampons or cups to measure how much blood is coming out and make sure the bleeding remains within the safe amount.

Some doctors advise not to use tampons or menstrual cups until after the period of stronger bleeding, since during the period of stronger bleeding, the risk of infection while having something inserted into the vagina may be slightly increased.

Remember that tampons should be changed every 4-8 hours (or sooner, if needed) in order to avoid Toxic Shock Syndrome.
