How should I take the pills if I have mifepristone and misoprostol?

  Share

Until 10 weeks of pregnancy, 1 pill of mifepristone (200 mg) and 4 pills of misoprostol (800 mcg in total) are needed.

From 10-12 weeks an additional 4 pills of misoprostol are recommended.

To use the pills most effectively:

    •      Swallow 1 mifepristone pill.
    •      24 hours later, place 4 pills of misoprostol (800 mcg in total) between the gums and the cheeks. Wait at least 30 minutes, or until the pills dissolve. After 30 minutes, the remains of the pills can be swallowed.*

Between 10 and 12 weeks of pregnancy, it is recommended to take a second dose of 4 misoprostol, 3-4 hours after the first dose of misoprostol.

*If the misoprostol pills also contain painkiller diclofenac (as for example, Arthrotec pills), it is strongly advised to spit out the remains of the pills after 30 minutes, rather than swallowing them.
