Abortion pills can be safely used by people living with HIV. People living with HIV may be at higher risk of infection and anemia, depending on the current state of their health and immunity. Because of the potentially heavy bleeding it entails, iron supplements during an abortion with pills can reduce the risk of anemia. After the abortion it is important to watch for signs of a potential infection in order to take antibiotics quickly if necessary. People with currently compromised immune systems might consider taking antibiotics to prevent infection after using the pills. ^{43, 44}
