When will I start bleeding and what will it look like?

The first pill – mifepristone – usually does not cause bleeding, though some people experience light spotting.

Misoprostol causes cramping and bleeding with clots as the uterus contracts and pushes out the pregnancy. The bleeding usually starts within a couple of hours, and usually slows after 24 hours. However, cramping and bleeding can start sooner or later; every experience is different. The bleeding is usually heavier than a menstrual period. and often accompanied by clots – tissue coming from the uterus. Spotting or light bleeding can last even until the first period, which most commonly comes back in about 4-6 weeks.
