Myths about morning after pill (emergency contraception)

  Share

Some people get confused and think that emergency contraceptive pills (or morning after pills) are the same as “abortion pills”. They aren’t. Emergency contraception is used to prevent pregnancy before it begins, and works by delaying or inhibiting ovulation; it does not cause an abortion.  If a woman is already pregnant, emergency contraception will not cause an abortion.  If a woman wants to end an unwanted pregnancy, she will need the abortion pills which she can request through Women Help Women.

There are no safety concerns about using progestin-only emergency contraceptive pills more than once. Emergency contraception is equally effective each time it is used.
