Are there any medical conditions that mean I shouldn’t have an abortion with pills?

There are very few medical conditions that are contraindications to abortion with pills and those conditions are very rare.

Most people know if they have any of them. Abortion pills should NOT be used in case of:

  • inherited porphyria
  • chronic adrenal failure or hepatic (liver) failure
  • continuous oral use of corticosteroid medications
  • conditions affecting blood coagulation
  • known allergy to mifepristone or misoprostol

You will be asked about these conditions in the online consultation30, 36, 46
