How does a female condom work?

  Share

Condoms stop the sperm from reaching the egg by creating a physical barrier to prevent fertilization. A female condom is made of polyurethane or latex. It is put in the vagina and loosely lines it. If used according to instructions it is 95% effective. This means that five women in 100 will get pregnant in a year. If it is not used according to instructions, more women will become pregnant. A condom must not be used more than once. Use a new one each time you have sex.
