Most women will start bleeding 1-4 hours after using misoprostol; however, there are individual variations.  Every experience is different.

In some exceptional cases the bleeding can occur 24 hours to 72 hours of taking the misoprostol. It is important to know that if there is no bleeding or only light bleeding after 72 hours, it means the abortion did not work.

Bleeding is usually heavier than a period and often accompanied by clots. The heaviest bleeding typically occurs 2-5 hours after using misoprostol and usually slows within 24 hours. Some women may pass clots days or even weeks later. This is common and is not dangerous, if there are no symptoms of a complication.
